Introduction:

When you have multiple properties and farm assets spread across 100’s of kilometres of the Waikato how do you best manage staff and contractor inductions and safety information on remote farm sites?

The Problem:

This was the challenge for Benjamin Hemi, head Health and Safety advisor for Tainui Holdings Group faced as he searched to find a way of making the process of balancing safety, compliance and productivity easier.

One method he was convinced wasn’t working was having his fellow Kaungāngāue (workmates) fill out forms via the current paper-based systems.

Tainui Holdings Group needed a simple, mobile and paperless method of ramping up their core commitment to health and safety improvement. Benjamin recognised recording inductions and other important health and safety processes ensure worker comprehension of H&S policy and safe work practice is captured. This is crucial for a business which manages lots of iwi (people) and across multiple PCBU (Person in Charge of a Business or Undertaking) relationships.

Benjamin also wanted a simple way, as the key person responsible for the well being of his Kaungāngāue’s, in which he could oversee and update the day to day actions and information available to his team, across all work sites.

The Solution:

In November 2016 Benjamin engaged Zero Harm Farm to provide a more efficient and user-friendly way of managing Tainui Holdings Group’s responsibilities under the revised Health and Safety at Work Act (2015).

Benjamin and his management team now have eleven worksites being actively managed by the Zero Harm Farm application, including one development site near Ruakura and the old Meremere Coal Causeway.
